In a significant move to strengthen South Korea’s Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry, KINTEX (Korea International Exhibition Center) and the Goyang International Fair Foundation have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at fostering sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
The agreement, announced yesterday, marks a major step toward positioning Goyang City as a leading global MICE destination.
Under the partnership, both organisations will collaborate across multiple areas, including joint attraction and hosting of domestic and international MICE events, coordinated marketing initiatives to enhance Goyang’s global brand visibility, and the use of data-driven tools such as the Event Impact Calculator (EIC) to measure performance and economic impact.
A key focus of the agreement is the joint development of new exhibitions and conventions aligned with Goyang’s strategic industries, leveraging KINTEX’s extensive event infrastructure and data capabilities alongside the foundation’s analytical expertise.
The collaboration also aims to create a sustainable regional MICE ecosystem, linking exhibitions with local tourism and small businesses to drive broader economic benefits. By connecting events with local commercial districts, the initiative is expected to boost tourism spending and generate a ripple effect across the regional economy.
KINTEX, the largest exhibition and convention center in South Korea, has long been a key hub for international trade shows and global events, playing a vital role in the country’s MICE landscape.
Commenting on the development, KINTEX CEO Lee Min-woo described the agreement as a “turning point” in enhancing the competitiveness of Goyang’s MICE industry, emphasising a shared vision of building an ecosystem where regional development and industry growth go hand in hand.
As global competition in the MICE sector intensifies, this strategic partnership is expected to strengthen Korea’s position by driving innovation, collaboration, and sustainable industry expansion.
