Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Goa has entered into a landmark partnership with Tata Power to commission India’s first hotel-based Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), marking a significant step forward in sustainable hospitality infrastructure. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to innovation, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation within the luxury hospitality sector.
Developed and executed by Tata Power, the advanced BESS installation at the iconic beachfront resort is designed to optimise energy usage while significantly reducing dependence on conventional diesel generators. The system integrates seamlessly with the resort’s existing power sources, including grid supply and renewable energy, ensuring uninterrupted operations and enhanced energy reliability. This partnership demonstrates how hospitality and energy leaders can jointly address operational challenges through clean technology solutions.
The project aligns with the sustainability vision of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), under which Taj Exotica operates. IHCL has been steadily investing in environmentally responsible practices across its portfolio, and the collaboration with Tata Power strengthens its commitment to reducing carbon emissions while maintaining high standards of guest comfort and service excellence.
Through this partnership, Tata Power conducted extensive technical feasibility studies, system design, safety simulations, and load testing to ensure the BESS met the operational demands of a large luxury resort. The installation allows the hotel to store energy during low-load periods and deploy it during peak demand, resulting in improved power quality, reduced generator runtime, and lower fuel consumption. This approach not only delivers environmental benefits but also supports long-term operational cost efficiencies.
Beyond energy savings, the partnership focuses on resilience and future readiness. The BESS is supported by a digital monitoring platform that provides real-time insights into energy flow, battery performance, and system health, enabling proactive management and data-driven decision-making.
