Himachal Pradesh is redefining its tourism landscape through a series of strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives that are enhancing visitor experience and driving revenue growth during the 2024-25 period. The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has successfully blended traditional charm with modern business strategies to position the state as a leading and seamless travel destination in a competitive market.
In an impressive financial performance, HPTDC generated ₹108.67 crore in revenue while expanding its tourism offerings beyond conventional hotel stays to immersive cultural and service-oriented experiences. The corporation manages a portfolio of 56 hotels and restaurants, showcasing the state’s famed hospitality while broadening service access for travellers.
A cornerstone of HPTDC’s success has been its strategic partnership with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which has resulted in the launch of a platinum card tailored for frequent travellers, premium clients, and institutions. Designed to offer exclusive benefits and streamline travel services, this collaboration enhances convenience for both domestic and premium holidaymakers, encouraging repeat visits and deeper engagement with the state’s tourism ecosystem.
HPTDC has also broadened its digital footprint through a key alliance with MakeMyTrip (MMT). This collaboration has already yielded ₹2 crore in advance revenue, highlighting strong consumer interest and strengthened online visibility. Such digital partnerships are crucial in attracting modern travellers who rely heavily on online planning and booking tools.
Beyond accommodation and travel services, HPTDC is diversifying into complementary sectors. Pending approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the corporation plans to introduce foreign exchange services at its tourist marketing offices, which will significantly enhance convenience for international visitors. In another adaptive venture, HPTDC teamed up with food delivery platforms Swiggy and Zomato, enabling tourists in key destinations such as Shimla, Manali, and Dharamsala to order local delicacies directly to their stays – an initiative that has broadened service accessibility and added to revenue streams.
The corporation’s 197 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with private and government entities have added to its revenue pool, generating an additional ₹1.1 crore in profits, and underscoring the role of collaborative frameworks in expanding business opportunities.
HPTDC’s multi-pronged approach – from public-private partnerships and digital integration to service diversification and international traveller convenience initiatives – reflects a forward-looking tourism strategy that marries the state’s cultural heritage with contemporary traveller expectations. These dynamic partnerships not only drive economic returns but also elevate the overall travel experience, setting a robust foundation for Himachal Pradesh’s future tourism growth.
