The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Kathmandu on December 2, 2025, to establish a framework for joint international tourism promotion. This agreement aims to align the national carrier’s air connectivity with the country’s tourism development, thereby strengthening both the aviation and travel sectors.

The collaboration outlines a comprehensive strategy for shared endeavors, including digital campaigns, participation in tourism fairs, and familiarization trips (FAM trips) for influential figures. Under the pact, Nepal Airlines will be designated as a ‘partner airline’ in NTB’s overseas initiatives, such as roadshows and press conferences, ensuring the national carrier is visibly integrated into the country’s marketing narrative. Logistical support from Nepal Airlines will include providing up to 100 kg of free cargo space for promotional materials on flights to key destinations, complemented by gift ticketing for joint programs.

This synergy is expected to benefit Nepal Airlines by boosting passenger traffic through targeted promotions, which could lead to potential route expansion. For NTB, the partnership leverages the airline’s network to deliver tourism messages directly to international travelers, from their boarding passes to in-flight magazines, making the carrier an ambassador for destinations like Kathmandu, Pokhara, and the Everest region.

The agreement also focuses on fostering growth through reciprocal support, such as discounted fares for NTB staff on promotional travel and dedicated exhibition stalls at fairs. A key element of the joint strategy involves hosting FAM trips for journalists, travel bloggers, and tour operators to prominent locations like Phewa Lake and Everest Base Camp trails to generate broad international content.

Officials have described the MoU as a strategic milestone intended to enhance Nepal’s presence globally and elevate the image of the national carrier. The collaboration is anticipated to contribute to the creation of a unified ‘Nepali brand’ in the international market, promoting sustainable tourism by combining consistent marketing efforts with reliable air access for visitors.
