In a significant step towards fostering regional tourism growth and sustainability, the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) and the Benin Ministry of Tourism have announced a strengthened collaboration aimed at boosting tourism across Africa.

This strategic partnership was formalized during a high-level meeting in Cotonou, where key stakeholders from both sides emphasized the urgent need for a unified approach to promote Africa as a premier global tourist destination.

The collaboration will focus on enhancing intra-African tourism, easing travel barriers, and jointly promoting cultural heritage, eco-tourism, and business travel between Nigeria, Benin, and the broader West African region. NATOP President, Mrs. Susan Akporiaye, highlighted that this alliance is not only about increasing tourist numbers but also about fostering sustainable tourism practices that benefit local communities and economies.

The Beninese authorities, on their part, assured full support in streamlining visa processes and improving infrastructure to facilitate smoother cross-border travel. Both parties agreed to organize joint marketing campaigns, capacity-building workshops, and familiarization trips for travel agents to better showcase Africa’s diverse tourism offerings.

This collaboration marks a pivotal move towards positioning West Africa as a competitive and attractive destination for international tourists, while also encouraging Africans to explore the richness of their own continent.
