Düsseldorf has launched a significant initiative aimed at enhancing its economic partnership with India through the creation of the India Competence Centre Düsseldorf (IKD). The centre is a joint effort by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Düsseldorf), the City of Düsseldorf, and Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. Its main purpose is to support companies from both regions looking to expand internationally.

The IKD is designed to assist German firms seeking opportunities in the Indian market while also helping Indian businesses and professionals who are interested in establishing themselves in Düsseldorf. The initiative builds on existing networks, including the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and the Indian Consulate in Frankfurt.

Andreas Schmitz, President of IHK Düsseldorf, emphasized the strategic significance of the centre: “This initiative supports regional companies looking to grow in India, which is especially important in today’s unpredictable global climate.”

Düsseldorf’s Mayor, Dr Stephan Keller, noted the city’s deepening relationship with India. He stated, “India is becoming an increasingly important partner. Our collaboration with Karnataka and the growing number of Indian businesses and professionals here highlight Düsseldorf’s attractiveness.”

Wolfram N. Diener, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, pointed out the role of trade fairs in global business: “Trade fairs are key entry points into new markets. Through IKD, we aim to attract more Indian companies and attendees to our events.”

Ferdinand Schlechta will head the centre, supported by Bettina Löhr and Felix Fröhlich from the city’s Economic Development Office.
